Midjourney wants Hollywood studios to be transparent about their use of AI
AI startup Midjourney is asking a court to require major Hollywood studios to disclose more details about how they use artificial intelligence as part of an ongoing copyright lawsuit.
The legal battle began when Disney and Universal accused Midjourney of copyright infringement, claiming its AI image generator could create recognizable characters like Bart Simpson and Darth Vader without permission. Warner Bros. later joined the lawsuit. Midjourney maintains that training its AI models on copyrighted material qualifies as fair use.
The latest disagreement centers on the discovery process. While a judge previously ordered the studios to share information about their AI use in consumer-facing content, Midjourney argues that restriction is too narrow. The company says the studios should also disclose internal AI projects, claiming such evidence could show that using copyrighted material for AI training is common industry practice.
Midjourney also wants the studios to provide all prompts they entered into its platform, along with the resulting images, instead of only the examples cited in the lawsuit.
The studios reject those requests, arguing Midjourney is conducting a broad "fishing expedition." They insist the lawsuit is not an attack on AI itself but an effort to prevent the unauthorized use of copyrighted movies, TV shows, and iconic characters.

Write a clear prompt describing the Android app you want to build. For example, explain the app's purpose, features, and preferred design. The more specific your prompt, the better the generated results.
